Sourcing in China
This blog has changed it’s objective. Seeing as a holiday to China has turned into a circus of sourcing mishaps, I’m now directing this blog to chronicle the process. Piper & Joe is collaboration between two friends to source and sell interesting stuff from the markets here in China. The markets are expansive and many. The language barrier is constantly a reminder that we are miles away from home. Learning Mandarin is on the ‘to do’ list’ however in the meantime we make do. On a recent Visa run to Hong Kong we ended up in a hospital with Joe needing stitches after falling down a flight of steps in early hours. Spending all of our budget on the hospital, we got stuck without money and nowhere to sleep, ate traditional Cantonese dim sims for breakfast and watched a beautiful Hong Kong Friday roll in with bloodshot eyes. I’ll suffice to say after a hellish, sleepless—carrying my concussed friend around—trudge through the city we finally accessed some money some time after midday and slept for a good 20hrs at the cheapest room we could find. All this, just to be legitimate for another three months and hopefully make something of this new enterprise while we’re at it.
